Favorite Holiday Musical

Thanks Chelle, for the fun Christmas post about your favorite holiday things! It got me thinking of one of my most favorite pre-holiday rituals. Meet Me In St. Louis.

Ever year, towards the end of fall, soon as the first snowfall hits, I'm ready to watch all of my favorite old movies, and some new ones, while I sit on my couch and crochet like an old lady. I LOVE it! Judy Garland movies were a favorite in our house growing up. Meet Me In St. Louis is one of the BEST.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas was written for this musical, so Judy Garland was the first to ever sing it. I remember how much I loved her red, velvety, poofy-sleeved dress and ruby red lips. I'd put on red lipstick and look in the mirror and tell myself I looked just like her. This scene brings on the Christmas spirit every time. You can never call on it too early!

I just watched it last week. I LOVE it and so happy to have it on DVD now. Sarah watched it for the first time with Mom and Jackie. Hannah loves it too. Yay for musicals and old movies, they are the best! They don't make good movies like those anymore.

Okay Deann, so you wont believe this but I have never seen a Judy Garland film and I am serious! But your post inspired me to rent them this Christmas because I hear all the time how wonderful they are. My family didnt seem to be into movies when I was growing up so I have to catch up on the old films. So thank you for posting this!

Awwww. I've never seen this, as I think we discussed. Very nice. :) So that means she's the original vocalist of this song?? That's wild!

BTW, I love how they both get in position and they're just waiting for the part where Judy can start singing. It feels like an eternity! Like, they're all, "Okay, can I start singing now? How about now?" :)

Warning:
For those of you who haven't seen this movie, you must not expect anything too deeply moving or thought provoking. It's just fun, silly entertainment. Not sure if I just think it's fabulous because it's nostalgic for me, after watching it through the years. Just don't want to mislead anyone into thinking this is an oscar-worthy film! But it's JUDY GARLAND!!! So it's worth it!

This movie is a classic! So full of love, cuteness and humor. I love how she ask the boy next door to help her turn off all the lights. How sweet and innocent it was!

I'll let you decide if I'm on the new blog list or not.
