I'm driving without a camera because I forgot the battery charger. So I'm taking mental pictures: of the gorgeous stained glass, southwestern-style mirror, so elegant in shades of blue and some red, in the hotel lobby where we stayed in downtown Albuquerque last night, the Nuttin' Fancy Cafe in Clarendon, Texas that promises "Dang Good Food!", the tiny pueblo-style, salmon-pink house with the turquoise front door that charmed me as we drove past and reminded me of the New Mexico welcome sign that read Land of Enchantment, and my kids' faces while standing on the window sill of our hotel room, hands and heads against the window pane, wide-eyed and motionless, quietly taking in the nighttime scene of city lights from oh so high up in the sky!
This morning the city of Albuquerque felt a bit lonely and unloved. It was eerily quiet. All I spotted were a few scattered business-folk and tourists walking here and there, one street vendor, one homeless man, and I swear only one pigeon. I enjoyed the Starbucks employees whose faces livened with the greetings and farewells dished out by Allie Rose, and the few customers there who, even in New Mexico look the same as anywhere.
It was good to be in the heart of a city though, however un-bustling. Soooo good to be on a road-trip, especially with my books, my lap-top and crossword puzzles, Chad to answer all my questions with the familiarity of his sunflower seed-eating habit while driving, and children contentedly watching Robots in the backseat. And it will be very, very good to be in Moab, Utah for dinner at Eddie McStiff's! I've perused the menu online and now anticipate some fantastic food in just a few hours! Texas is grand and I do love it greatly, but I sure can't wait to be in the vegetarian-friendly, tree-hugging spirit of Moab! Just can't wait!

You make it sound so lovely there! Was Chad eating pickle flavored sun flower seeds? That was so gross when he ate those that one time!
Hey I almost bought three cups of tea at target the other day. Do you like it? Should that be my next read? I still have yet to find a book as good as Pilars! I need some recommendations!
Deanne, I so enjoy reading your posts, sounds like your having a wonderful time. Your so detailed and I admire that.
Ohhh! Thanks Erica!
Lindsey -YES, he was eating the pickle-flavored ones! Ha ha haaaaa! He says he always eats the pickle ones! So funny, I didn't even realize that.
Books...
well, Three Cups of Tea is great but it's not a page-turner like Pillars. I think it's good to slow it down though. I found myself getting too used to the short-term gratification of a fast-paced read. I'm only 5o pages into Tea, but really do like it. For me, the books I love most have been ones that I find just browsing the book stores. It's hard to recommend a book because it's all so subjective, I've learned after telling Artie to read Eat, Pray, Love. Ha ha! Are you on good reads? That website is such a great tool for finding good books to read. On my profile there is a list of all the books I have read and you can read about them and see which ones interest you. I even marked the ones I have to swap. So let me know and I can bring them with me next time I see you.
I'm looooooving Animal, Vegetable, Miracle even more. I love Barbara Kingsolver's writing so much. Maybe look at any of her books. I know two other of her popular ones are The Bean Trees and Poisonwood Bible.
You can click on each of the books in my sidebar to read more about them too.
Wow, you don't have to take pictures with those observation skills! I'm impressed. It sounds wonderful and I wish I could jump right in and not do my laundry! I'm glad you had fun!
That would be fun to be on a road trip right now! YOU should be happy there was only 1 pigeon! lol
That's what I was thinking Jennifer! You got lucky Deann!
Deann you sound like an author! You need to write a book. Your so great with details and descriptions! Sometimes after reading your blog I think "oh my gosh, that's deann talking"! I so jealous that you guys can just pick up and leave on a whim! Sounds so fun!
That is quite a talent for describing the way you did!! I absolutely love it!! I want to go on a roadtrip with you and Chad. Matt loves when we travel with people who find the best places to eat (and I think he and Chad would get along just great-- pickle flavored sunflower seeds are all Matt eats!!)
Aaaaw! Thanks Kim! That is the best compliment ever!
Bobbi, I'll tell Chad he's got a pickle sunflower seed soul brother out there! SO funny!
